Why I made this Site

I’ve spent over 25 years as a professional musician and audio engineer — touring the world, recording in studios, composing for film and TV, theatre sound design, and teaching. I’ve got a master’s in music and audio production, and I’m always creating in my home studio.

So why am I here talking about Linux?

Because switching to Linux was way harder than it needed to be!

G’day! I’m Daniel Holdsworth, and when I decided to switch to Linux I spent months trying to get my computer to work how I wanted. When I searched for help I found:

  • Guides that assumed I already knew things I didn’t
  • Conflicting advice depending on which Linux version people were using
  • YouTube videos that were either too basic or way too technical
  • Outdated forums chats

Every time I thought I’d solved a problem, I’d hit another roadblock. Some fixes worked, others didn’t — but there was no single resource to help beginners setup Linux for professional audio production.

That’s why I created this site. If you’re a musician or work in audio production and want to try Linux, you shouldn’t have to jump through the same hoops I did!

With the resources I’ve made here you’ll be able to get started quickly and focus on making music instead of wrestling with your computer!

What You’ll Find Here

This website is everything I wish had existed when I started:

Getting Started – What is Linux? What are distros? Which version is best for audio work and how to install it

Making Music – Setting up your audio gear, DAWs and plugins, alternatives tools

Beyond Music – Office apps, utilities, video editing, streaming and gaming

Going Deeper – Customising your setup, terminal basics (if you’re curious), exploring other Linux flavours

I’m not trying to convert everyone to Linux. But if you’re curious, I’ll walk you through it step-by-step.

And here’s the best part: it’s all free. No subscriptions, no paid tutorials – just one muso helping another.
